The tomb of Salahudeen Al-Ayyubi

TODAY IN HISTORY, 4th of March 1193 A.D marked the death of one of the greatest hero of Palestine.

As a background, Sultan Salahudeen studied under the mentorship of one of the Sultan's of the Zenghid dynasty of Syria, Nurudeen Zenghi.
He went on and established a sovereign state in Egypt which also later span across Syria by the name the Ayyubid dynasty.
He was very notable for defeating the Christian crusader army multiple times.

Also, Under Sultan Salahudeen's command, the Ayyubid army defeated the Crusaders at the decisive Battle of Hittin in 1187, capturing Jerusalem and re-establishing Muslim military dominance in the Levant. Although the Crusaders' Kingdom of Jerusalem continued to exist until the late 13th century, the defeat in 1187 marked a turning point in the Christian military effort against Muslim powers in the region. He was also renowned for protecting the christian and Jewish community in Palestine after the victory contrary to what the Crusader's did about a hundred years from them when they took Palestine from the hands of the Fatimid caliphate of Egypt, (they massacred both the Muslims and their own people when they took the city). Also, he forgave and freed King Richard, who was one of the ruler of the Crusader army who was captured during the war.

Sultan Salahudeen died of a fever on 4 March 1193 (27 Safar 589 AH) at Damascus. In his possession at the time of his death were one piece of gold and forty pieces of silver. He had given away his great wealth to his poor subjects, leaving nothing to pay for his funeral. He was buried in a mausoleum in the garden outside the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, Syria.

Sultan Salahudeen has become a prominent figure in Islamic, Arab, Turkish and Kurdish culture, and he has been described as the most famous Kurd in history. Historian Ibn Munqidh mentioned him as the person who revived the reign of Rashidun Caliphs.

May Allah reward him abundantly and raise some one who will once again revive Palestine again and liberate it form the hands of the enemies.
